The Gora Museum of Local Lore was opened on July 24, 1999, on the days of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Polyarny (formerly Aleksandrovsk). The museum is located in a 3-storey detached building. This is one of the first stone houses of the city, built in the mid-30-ies for the sailors of the Northern Military Flotilla. The main objectives of the museum are to preserve and study the rich historical and cultural heritage of the city, its architectural monuments and city sights, to conduct scientific research and pedagogical work, to study and preserve the natural environment and ecology of the city and the region. The museum's fund has more than 27 thousand items of storage. The main exhibition of the museum is dedicated to the history of the city and the fleet. It is located on the 2nd floor in three halls with a total area of ​​400 square meters. It consists of several thematic sections: flora and fauna of the Kola Peninsula; archeology; born among the hills and rocks, he became part of Russia; construction of the base of the Northern Fleet and the Great Patriotic War; modern period.
