Sergiev Posad (Сергиев Посад) is the only city in the Moscow Region to be officially included on the Golden Ring route. It is is home to one of the most revered monasteries in Russia, Troitse-Sergeiv Monastery, a UNESCO protected site, and the spiritual home of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is a combination of a fortress and a monastery. The seminary of the Russian Orthodox Church is located in the buildings of the complex. There are several beutiful churches to see, a holy source and in general the site with its massive walls and gates is very picturesque. A great place to visit.! Sergiev Posad is very close to Moscow, and therefore it is great for a day trip. You can take a guided tour or go by yourself by train. There are many trains (long-distance, express and suburban) that connect Sergiev Posad with the capital. Trains leave every 30 minutes between Sergiev Posad and Moscow's Yaroslavsky train station. The station is located at Komsomolskaya metro station (red line). It is very easy to get to by train, even if you do not speak Russian (you just tell the cashier "Sergiev Posad obratniy). Make sure you have the right station СЕРГИЕВ ПОСАД или АЛЕКСАНДРОВ . Also you must pay attention to the time of departure). The best time to visit this place is during the week, as it gets very crowded at weekends. Outside the walls there are market stalls, with good merchandise and better prices.

A tad touristy
