The Dmitrov Kremlin never had stone walls; a small specific town was dispensed with earthen ramparts. Wooden defense towers were erected on the shafts, the number of which reached ten in the best times for the Kremlin (XVI-XVII centuries), and entrance gates were arranged in between the shafts. Of course, nothing has remained since then, except for the ramparts themselves, but one of the gates, Nikolsky, has been restored today and is very popular with tourists visiting Dmitrov.
