A very interesting city, it's a pity only a lot of decayed houses ...

I heard a lot about Vyborg. And so I decided to visit. It is an hour away from St. Petersburg. You can get on the train Swallow, it takes 1 hour 15 minutes, the remaining trains go 2 hours. The fare is from 250 rubles. up to 340 rub. At rush hour on weekends, there are a lot of people in electric trains, choose more comfortable days and times for travel. We rode on Saturday at 9:30. I do not advise at such a time, they rode and breathed through time. Near the railway station in Vyborg there is a large stand with a map of the city and photographs of places that are required to visit. We reached the Vyborg castle, on the way we examined the architecture of the city. We were surprised that historical values did not have support, a feeling of desolation and withering remained. The castle itself did not impress, but once you can go and see. Also think about places where you want to eat in advance. We searched for a very long time, since there are few of them in the city.

An original city with the characteristic beauty of small towns. Historical note realistically intertwined with the modern attitude to the values of cultural heritage. In Vyborg nice walk. Especially in the evening. It is tasty and inexpensive to eat in restaurants. It's nice and warm human attitude in schools.

The Old Town (Vyborg) The Old Town (Vyborg) is a historical district within the Central microdistrict of the city of Vyborg. The unique architectural appearance of the historical part of Vyborg has developed over more than seven centuries under the influence of several national cultures (Swedish, Finnish, German, Russian). It is represented by architectural monuments from different eras - from the ancient buildings of the Middle Ages to the buildings of the late XX - early XXI century. Home of the merchant guild of the Holy Spirit In addition to the castle, two towers and one bastion of the former Vyborg fortress, the Clock Tower and two dilapidated medieval temples, another seven buildings of the Swedish period (until the 18th century) - the House on the Rock, Vekrut's House of Merchants and the House of the Rich Citizen (Episcopal House) on Vyborg Podgornaya Street, the Church of Hyacinth on Vodnaya Zastava Street, the Dweller's House in the back of the courtyard of the Fortress Street, as well as two medieval houses on Vyborgskaya Street: the house of the merchant guild of the Holy Spirit and the guild house of artisans. Almost all these buildings were built before the first city master plan appeared in 1639 and differ in that they are located at an angle to the modern grid of streets. After the arrival in 1710 of the Russian garrison in Vyborg, defensive structures and military barracks are being built. In the second half of the 18th century, civil buildings were built, then the architectural ensemble of the Cathedral Square in the style of classicism was built: Peter and Paul's cathedral and the Transfiguration of the Savior, the palace of the governor and the building of the Imperial Hofgericht, as well as the not preserved to this time the guest yard and the new town hall. In the second half of the 19th century, Vyborg was built in the eclectic direction: a modern view of the Old Town Hall Square (B. Blomkvist, E. Dippel) was being formed, many public institutions were being constructed in the area of the junction of the modern Fortress Street and Leningradsky Prospekt: the governor's house, the provincial government building, institutions, post office. In 1893, according to the project of K. Dippel in the Gothic style, the largest church of the city is being built - the New Cathedral. Its spire of height of 75 meters became the most important dominant of the city.
