Almost all these buildings were built before the first city master plan appeared in 1639 and differ in that they are located at an angle to the modern grid of streets. After the arrival in 1710 of the Russian garrison in Vyborg, defensive structures and military barracks are being built. In the second half of the 18th century, civil buildings were built, then the architectural ensemble of the Cathedral Square in the style of classicism was built: Peter and Paul's cathedral and the Transfiguration of the Savior, the palace of the governor and the building of the Imperial Hofgericht, as well as the not preserved to this time the guest yard and the new town hall. In 1893, according to the project of K. Dippel in the Gothic style, the largest church of the city is being built - the New Cathedral.
