It's great that there is an opportunity to plunge into the source. Everything is equipped for this.

The wonderful atmosphere of the place, beautiful views of the Volkhov. Just below the temple is the source of St. Praskiev Pyatnitsa. The first mention of the St. John Monastery on Malysheva Mountain is found in the chronicles of 1276. Until the end of the 17th century, the monastery buildings, including the church, were wooden. According to sources, the current church was erected in 1695 on the site of a more ancient wooden one. Malysheva mountain dug by underground passages. In the XIX century, the villagers mined here quartz sand and sold it in St. Petersburg for the manufacture of light bulbs. The voids formed became a threat to the preservation of the monument. Restorers had to pump a lot of concrete there, which stopped its destruction. In 1991, after the restoration was completed, the Church of the Nativity of John the Forerunner was the first in Staraya Ladoga to be returned to believers.

In the annals of 1604 it is mentioned that, at the behest of Boris Godunov and his donations to the St. John the Baptist (Ivanovo) monastery, which stood on a hill called the local population Malyshevaya Mountain, two bells were cast. On one of them was inscribed the inscription - "Ladoga - the bastion of my state." The very first mention of this monastery is found in sources dated 1276. But, unfortunately, the buildings of that time have not reached our days. The current stone church of the Nativity of John the Baptist with the chapel of St. Paraskevi Fridays and the bell tower was built in 1695 on the site of its wooden predecessor. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries life was seething here. Malysheva Gora was the venue for large annual fairs, starting on Christmas Day of John the Baptist (July 7) and lasting a whole week. But already in the first half of the 18th century, Ladoga lost its former military-strategic and commercial importance, which, in turn, negatively affected the monastery. In 1764, the Ivanovo Monastery, in which at that time two people lived - Hieromonk Tikhon and the monk Jonah, was abolished, and the Church of the Nativity became a parish. For many years, St. John's Church was the main temple of Staraya Ladoga. But in Soviet times it was closed. The church was again handed over to the parishioners in 1991. Now it is assigned to the Nikolsky monastery.

There is a snow-white temple on the outskirts of the village on Malysheva Gora. It has a limit in the name of St. Praskeva Friday, as well as an ornate refectory with a Russian stove and a bell tower. He moved in 1695. The place is salted.

The temple is very beautiful, stands at the entrance to Old Ladoga. Stairs lead down to the river, there is a spring and a bathhouse.
