St. Nicholas Church in the churchyard Verola (north-western outskirts of Sukhoi village) was first mentioned in 1499-1500. Nearby, on the bank of the river Vloya, above the mouth of the Ratveevsky stream, according to legend, in the XVI century. there was the Peter and Paul Church, later turned into a chapel. Around 1750 Nikolsky temple was rebuilt, but soon burned down. The new church was transported from the Stuglevo estate (now the southern outskirts of the village of Zapolek) in 1759 and stood until 1845. In 1828-1838, the zeal of the landowners M.K. Kryzhanovsky and MA Maikov designed the famous classical architect David Ivanovich Visconti and with the participation of the priest Pavel Primorsky (died in 1844) a magnificent temple was erected in the form of a rotunda with a bell tower in the western part. The church was in the care of local landowners - Maikov, Vihlyaev, Shtalman, a full state councilor and mayor V.A. Ratkova-Rozhnova. From 1877 to the 1930s, Archpriest N.V. served here. Belyavin. There were parish trusteeship, six registered chapels, four schools. The parish owned 33 tithes of land. The last priest, Mikhail Mikhailovich Nalimov, was shot in December 1937. During the war years, a base for car repair was placed in the temple, now it is empty, the vaults have collapsed, the building is in disrepair. On April 13, 1999, in the village of Sukhoi, a prayer house was opened in the name of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God. The village of Verola is located 110 versts from Petersburg and 36 from Novaya Ladoga, at the Kobonka River, a mile from the Arkhangelsk Road, among the marshes, mostly covered with water and serving as a reservoir for the Ladoga Canal. The name of the village, of course, Karelian. The present stone church was built in 1838 by landlord Lieutenant-General Maxim Konstantinovich Kryzhanovsky. Not having had time to finish it, after death, Kryzhanovsky left a certain amount for this, Mikhail Apollonovich Maykov, colonel of artillery, who bought his estate from him, who completed the church with the participation of the clergy. The temple was built according to the plan of the architect Visconti. It is dedicated to St. Nicholas. Its antimins was consecrated by Metropolitan Nicanor on December 2nd, 1851. The temple was consecrated on September 24th. 1838 Novaya Ladoga Archpriest Mikhail Gruzinsky, with priest Pavel Primorsky. Two ancient Greek letters, icons: Nicholas "with deeds" and the Introduction, and a tin ark stored in the sacristy are of interest in the temple. The first church was built here around 1750 and soon burned down. In its place in 1759, a wooden church was transported from the estate of the Stuglev Ilyinsky parish. According to the inscription on the cross hanging in the altar, it is clear that the church in the name of Introduction was consecrated under Elizabeth Petrovna, with the blessing of Archbishop Dimitri, Old Ladoga Ivansky Monastery Hegumen Theodosius, in 1759 on September 27th. This temple, by 1830, has decayed, and therefore, by the Decree of the Consistory, of August 9, 1845, No. 3577, was dismantled.

Beauty, but unfortunately everything is ruined

This is a church built in 1838 with modern printed icons and a well-trodden path to the entrance. The church is clearly visited, but you need to go inside very carefully, because wooden roof slabs may collapse.

The church is destroyed. But they seem to be going to restore it. So far, only trees have been cut down around.
