Upper Bath Pavilion

A very beautiful pavilion in the Catherine Park in Tsarskoe Selo.

Exiting the palace and descending the stairs, the first thing you will see is this building, beautifully reflected in the waters of Mirror Lake. In 1777, when the palace was reconstructed, the bathroom of the imperial family was destroyed. That is why the construction of a new one, which they called the New Bath, began. The construction is carried out by father and son Neelovi. It has 6 rooms - a bathroom, a steam room, a wardrobe or a dressing room, a lounge and a room for heating the water. The ceiling and walls of the lounge are painted by Alexey Ivanovich Belski, a master in historical and landscape painting, with copies of the murals of the Golden House of Nero in Rome, a huge palace in size, beginning to be built 64 years ago, after the great fire in Rome and completed 68. Until the mid-19th century, the pavilion was used as a bathroom. After a major overhaul, made in 1911, it has been adapted as a museum in honor of the 200th anniversary of Tsarsko selo. After World War II, the building was used as a reading room and for playing chess. In 2005-2006 a major restoration was carried out. It now hosts temporary thematic exhibitions.

After the restoration of the pavilion building itself and the mirror ponds, it looks very picturesque and creates a recognizable "postcard" view of the park.
