Vyborgskiy Pedagogicheskiy Kolledzh

The neo-Gothic building of 1900 attracts attention. The author of this urban masterpiece Waldemar Johannes Aspelin is a Finnish architect of Swedish origin. Another of his work in Vyborg of the same year - the bank of the northern countries. Aspelin's activities in Vyborg were rather ambiguous - at one time he insisted on the demolition of the Round Tower. The building of the future pedagogical school originally had luxurious apartments leased to Germany and Denmark to accommodate diplomatic missions. Later, during the revelry of Soviet power, some employees suffered from political repression. The building, plundered and damaged by military operations in 1945, was transferred to the jurisdiction of the pedagogical school.

Vyborg Pedagogical College is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It was built in the neo-Gothic style for the consul Emil Rothe by the project of the architect Valdemar Aspelin in 1899-1900. In the thirties of the last century, the house housed the German consulate and the residence of the vice-consul of Denmark Leon Perander. The Vice-Consul of Denmark was also involved in commercial activities, representing the interests of a copper company, building materials companies and forwarding services. The building has been preserved in good condition. In Soviet times, an evening school for working youth was located here, and then a pedagogical college and a branch of the Pedagogical University named after Pushkin.
