In 2011, the Luga School of Music celebrated its 50th anniversary. Today the school has 235 students. The school is located in the House of the merchant Bykov, which is a historical and cultural monument of regional significance of the early 20th century. According to the legislation in force at the time of construction, merchants did not have the right to build buildings higher than 2 floors. The building is decorated with unusual masonry. There is a mezzanine and a basement floor. Only the upper part of the basement windows is visible from the facade. The building is heavily covered with earth. Only the asphalt has a layer of 40 centimeters. At the beginning of the 20th century, it housed one of Luga's private trading exchanges, where transactions were made against cash. Originally, in the center of the first floor there was a gate to enter the courtyard of the house. Before the war, a Voentorg store was opened on the ground floor. During the years of occupation, one of the units of the security service of the German army was located here. On February 12, 1944, the first red flag was raised over the building in honor of the liberation of Luga from the Nazi invaders. Today - Kirov street in this part has become a beautiful pedestrian zone.
