Picture House

The project of the studio of the architect F. B. Rastrelli. Date of construction: mid-18th century Five halls of the permanent exposition of the museum are open to visitors: the Double-height Hall, the Picture Hall, Cabinet-Library and two rooms of the Kunstkamera. 80 paintings by Western European masters of the 16th-18th centuries are presented in the picturesque decoration of the Picture and Double-Height Halls. There is a significant number of Chinese "curiosities" in the Cabinet of Curiosities of the Picture House. Throughout the 18th century, interest in China and Chinese culture continued in Europe and Russia. In the interiors of the Cabinet-Library and the Kunstkamera, carved wardrobes and shelves have been recreated, which contained the book collection of the Grand Duke, numbering more than 4000 volumes and covering all sections of the military, exact, natural and humanitarian sciences. In the eastern wing of the Picture House there was the Opera Hall - the first court theater, arranged by Grand Duke Peter Fedorovich in the Oranienbaum residence and existed from 1755 to 1758. Currently, a multimedia show dedicated to the history of Russian theater of the Baroque era is unfolding in this place.

Very interesting excursion. I would especially like to say about the idea of ​​opera. A bewitching performance! You sit for 20 minutes and enjoy the effects and an interesting story voiced by Oleg Basilashvili. I'd like to go there again.
