Round gate tower of Lars Torstensson (Pugachevskaya tower) of the 17th century. The round gate tower of Lars Torstensson (Pugachevskaya tower) was built in 1585 and got its name in honor of the Swedish commandant Lars Torstensson, who was the manager of the construction work. In 1795, in honor of the arrival of Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov, who visited the fortress with an inspection, the date 1975 was inscribed on the weather vane of the gate tower, which can be seen there to this day. Since 1775, the wives (Sofia Dmitrievna and Ustinya Petrovna) and the children of Emelyan Pugachev were kept in the gate tower of Lars Torstensson (Pugachevskaya tower).

This tower was the exit to the bridge, the bridge is no longer there. Be aware that Monday and Tuesday are days off and you cannot get into the fortress.

Once through this tower there was access to the bridge on Spassky Island, where the New Fortress was built. Then there was a prison, the Pugachev family was kept in it. Decembrists, Petrashevists. There was also a gate upholstered in captured Swedish cuirasses. And now there is a museum: on the first floor of the cell, on the second - a small exposition, the upper ones are still closed ...
