The museum is located inside the Peter & Paul Fortress, and you pay for your tickets (350P) directly at the museum entrance. It was interesting; museum is rather small with 2 floors of exhibits. They had displays of grotesque torture instruments and figurines, with descriptions of the origins and uses (with English translation). If you’re interested in seeing how horrifyingly ugly the nature of mankind is, or if you’re a sadist, this is for you!

It's worth a look but don't expect too much. 300 rubles is a bit expensive for what you see considering what you get for this ticket price elsewhere. All that said, where else are you going to make yourself feel a bit sick by looking at ancient torture and execution devices and wonder who they were used on last. If you're into this type of thing you'll dig it for sure.

Nice museum to visit if you are curious about medieval torture instruments. Most explanations are written in both English and Russian. A little bit short however.

Amazing! Exhibition is not big, but every torture instrument has discription both in english and russian. Wasn't scary at all, but wouldn't recommend for pregnant woman and little kids.

Nice place but some exhipitions didn't have description in english.
