The cathedral is the main temple of the Ekaterinodar and Kuban diocese. St. Catherine's Cathedral - one of the largest churches in Russia, a monument of architecture of the city. This is the center of the spiritual life of the Kuban.
The decision to build the Cathedral was made by the public of Yekaterinodar on October 17, 1889 - a year after the terrible catastrophe of the royal train, in which members of the august family miraculously survived. Shortly before the incident, Emperor Alexander III with his wife and sons visited Ekaterinodar. In honor of the deliverance of the royal family from destruction, it was decided to build in Ekaterinodar a majestic cathedral with seven thrones.
The construction of the largest cathedral in the region went on for 14 years.
Difficult years in the life of the parish came after the October Revolution, the cathedral experienced "Renovation", in 1922 under the pretext of helping the starving Volga was completely plundered. Miraculously escaped the temple of the fate of the Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky. The cathedral was being prepared for an explosion, supposedly for the sake of bricks. The savior of the cathedral was his creator. Architect Malherb managed to convince the commission on the destruction of churches in the inexpediency of its destruction. On June 26, 1934, the Diocesan Administration announced that the community had disintegrated because of its small number. The cathedral was turned into a warehouse. The resumption of divine services occurred only after the liberation of Krasnodar from the Nazi invaders in 1944. Restoration work was carried out to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus in the Catherine's Cathedral.
In 2014 the Council celebrated its 100th anniversary.
