In the spring of 2001, an Agreement on Long-term Mutual Cooperation was signed between the Samara Diocese and the Department of Health of the Samara Region. According to this document, Orthodox clergymen can freely perform all the sacraments and rituals with patients in medical institutions of the region, hold spiritual and educational conversations with health workers, and form spiritual libraries in hospitals. In the spring of the same year, on the initiative of the late Honored Chief Physician of the Russian Federation VD Seredavin, who was then head of the Samara Regional Clinical Hospital, an Orthodox parish community was registered an Orthodox parish in honor of the venerable Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth, a new martyr of the 20th century who performed mercy and social services in Moscow at the beginning of the 20th century. On the basis of the Agreement between the Samara Diocese and the Health Department of the Samara Region of 2001, a temple will be built in the territory of the Kalinin Regional Clinical Hospital in honor of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna (Romanova). According to an existing project, the hospital church resembles the temple of the Martha and Mary Convent in Moscow.
