The monument to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (a copy of the monument erected in 2004 in Anadyr, Chukotka) was solemnly opened on February 15, 2006, as part of the action "From Kaliningrad to Chukotka".
The St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Charitable Foundation will make four six-ton bronze sculptures over 8 meters high to be placed on all four borders of our Motherland. The campaign for the installation of monuments will be called "From Kaliningrad to Chukotka". According to the initiators' idea, bronze sculptures of the heavenly patron of Russia should protect the spiritual and geographical space of our country from external and internal threats.
Three copies of the monument were installed:
- August 11, 2004 in the city of Anadyr, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (eastern border);
- February 15, 2006 in the city of Maykop, Republic of Adygea (southern border);
- October 14, 2006 in the city of Omsk.
On December 19, 2009, in the city of Kaliningrad, a monument was erected in a new version: in his raised hands, Nikolai the Wonderworker holds a sword and a temple.
Commemorative texts on the four sides of the pedestal:
"St. Nicholas Archbishop Miracle Worker of Mirlikia";
"Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of the city of Myra of Lycia (modern Turkey), lived in the III-IV centuries AD. He is deeply revered by Christians and Muslims as the founder of the tradition of secret disinterested selfless charity to all the disadvantaged. By his example he showed a unique example of morality, morality and peacemaking. Monuments to him. not established in Turkey, Russia and Italy. ";
"This monument as a sign and call for peace and harmony between peoples and religions and as a blessing of God to the Caucasus was established at the initiative of the authorities of the Republic of Adygea, the city of Maikop and the Orthodox Church by Orthodox patrons of art, slaves of God Andrei Yuryevich Bykov and Mikhail Ivanovich Chepel and the Charitable Foundation of St. in the summer of 2005.
The author of the monument is the Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Mikhailovich Isakov. Architect - Victor Vasilievich Merzlyakov. "
Since autumn 2016, the plinth facing and four commemorative plaques have been missing.
