Church in the Igumen Cemetery. The latter is located about a kilometer east of the central manor of the monastery. A 300-meter alley of Siberian fir leads to it. The Igumen cemetery was laid by Abbot Damaskin in 1876 near a wooden chapel in the name of St. Nicholas. Sergius of Radonezh. The church was consecrated in the name of the Rev. Fathers, and those who had prayer in fasting and prayer. The temple is built of Valaam brick in Byzantine and classical styles and has a discreet decoration. The carved gilded iconostasis of the church, frescoes and icons have not been preserved. The bell tower of the church is a high arch with semicircular extensions reaching half the height. On the tier of the bell, where there were once 9 small bells, only the monastery work of a wrought-iron cast-iron railing remained. Considering that the church is a cemetery, the décor of its facades is saturated. Inside the church are preserved wall paintings in which nearly 10 centuries of monastery history can be read. Here is depicted the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, according to legend, the first Orthodox cross that came to Valaam and installed an Orthodox cross in place of a pagan temple. The founders of the monastery are St. Sergius and Herman. Next are the saints who labored on Valaam and became the founders of other monasteries and monasteries: Avraamy of Rostov, Arseny Konevsky, Alexander Svirsky. Among the icons in the temple there are two images of the Savior and the Mother of God, which accurately repeat the personal icons of Abbot Damascus, once presented to him and given to them in the temple.
