The museum, located in the building of the New Grain Exchange, is a must-see for all guests of Rybinsk. Perfectly selected and balanced composition: from mammoths and stone arrowheads to original paintings and icons. For just 150 rubles per person, you can get a complete picture of the history of the city and the life of its inhabitants. The museum has surpassed all the wildest hopes. In addition, you can still download some kind of augmented reality application, but I noticed this stand already at the exit and did not try it out.

The exchange building was built for five years according to the project of the Yaroslavl architect with funds from the city treasury and partly with donations from non-resident merchants trading in Rybinsk. The opening ceremony in 1811 was attended by the Governor of Yaroslavl Mikhail Nikolaevich Golitsyn. However, it was not possible to overcome the merchant traditions of making transactions in taverns in front of the samovar or on their own ships, merchants in every possible way evaded the innovations in the European style. For a long time, the premises of the exchange were empty, only curious people came here, after which the city council decided to use it for their own needs. After repair work in 1831, it was given over to court proceedings by zemstvo and district officials. In 1841, Emperor Nicholas I returned to the building its original function, having repaired and improved, however, the main transactions were still made “the old fashioned way” in trading shops or right on the streets. Full trade in bread was transferred to the exchange only by 1860, and for many decades it became one of the largest in Russia in terms of turnover. The building operated as a stock exchange until October 1912, when its functions were transferred to the neoclassical building of a new grand stock exchange built in the neighborhood. The old grain exchange was occupied by military institutions. Naturally, with the advent of Soviet power and a planned economy, the stock exchange finally lost its original function. In different decades, educational institutions, a river station, and river police units were located here. Currently, the building of the Old Bread Exchange is transferred to the Rybinsk Museum-Reserve ...

I was at the historical exposition, it is interesting enough, there are not enough details about the population of the Rybinsk region and the Yaroslavl region in pre-Christian times ... and the museum management needs to work on the guides. the staff, to put it mildly, is not very well trained.
