Earlier, under socialist realism, the Mtsensk police department was located in house 8 along this street, and here lived the merchant Izmailov with his wife Ekaterina, who performed all sorts of different “monstrous miracles”. Ekaterina Izmailova became the heroine of Nikolai Semyonovich Leskov's novel Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. Only the cellars have survived in the house, it was rebuilt.
