Beautiful cathedral. And in terms of architecture and interior design. The first wooden church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord was built in the city of Novo-Nikolaevsk in 1913. The church was single-altar, wooden, with a bell tower in one bundle. In 1921, a side-altar in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker was added to the church. By the 1970s, the wooden cathedral was dilapidated. In 1971, a new baptismal church was built in honor of the Baptism of the Lord. In 1974, the reconstruction of the cathedral began: the western part was rebuilt, the vestibule was enlarged, and the internal columns were replaced. To preserve the appearance of the wooden temple, the new brick walls were hidden under the wooden paneling. In 1976, the walls of all three altars of the cathedral were replaced with brick ones, and in 1979 the lower church was consecrated in honor of St. Alexander Nevsky and the forefather Gideon. The project for the reconstruction of the temple was carried out by the Novosibirsk architect V.P. Avksentyuk. In 2011, the murals in the cathedral were partially renovated, the iconostases in the Serafimovsky and Nikolsky side-altars were restored and gilded.
