The valley of Asfan is about fifty kilometers northwest of the city of Mecca and Hudaybiyah is about thirty kilometers north. In the time of the Prophet, it was a pier between Mecca and Mecca. According to a source, it was named Asfan due to the severity and destruction of the floods.

The castle was originally protected by nearby caravans. It was built of stones that were brought from rocky areas.
