TAV Airports signed a contract with GACA, the Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia, together with Al Rajhi and Saudi Oger for the build-operate-transfer project of the Madinah Airport, the first airport privatization of Saudi Arabia. The Consortium, which started to operate Madinah Airport in June 30th, 2012, completed the construction of a state-of-the-art passenger terminal in February 2015. Within the scope of the project with an investment of approximately 1.2 billion USD, the passenger terminal came into service in April 2015. The capacity of Madinah Airport will be increased up to 18 million passengers from the existing capacity of 5.7 million passengers in 2014, thanks to the investments. The Consortium has the operation rights of Madinah Airport for 25 years. Madinah Airport has become the first Leadership in Environmental Friendly Design (LEED) certificated building given by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in the MENA region. The airport hit to the top of Routes Marketing Awards in the category of airports welcoming 4 to 20 million passengers in the Middle East and North Africa Regions. Medinah airport served 7,8 million passengers and 58.000 flights in 2017.

Medina is the holy land where we first stepped on our pilgrimage, I don't know how many degrees the air temperature is, but we could not breathe from the heat while going out. When entering the airport, air conditioners like cold storage on all walls were cooling the inside and it was like ice. Of course, while passing through the patience test, which is the first test of the Hadj, we were stuck at the airport for 14 hours because the company doing our work was incomplete, neither we could go out, nor the discomfort I had inside at that time was permanent and I still get very bad at the slightest cold.
