It is one of the great engineering works that El Salvador has and is located a short distance from the Cuscatlan bridge (the relatively new one) that was built after the end of the country's Civil War (it was built around 1999). This dam is one of the 4 that the country has (large hydroelectric plants) as there are other smaller ones scattered throughout the country. Its structure can be seen from the new Cuscatlan bridge. Unfortunately, the old bridge was dynamited by the guerrillas, not because it would have been beautiful to observe it from a distance since it was an engineering jewel.
