Ereguayquin Church, in Usulutan, from the colonial era, provides devotees with an environment of peace and serenity for those who seek to know more about the black Christ; Although the church was rebuilt due to the serious damage it suffered in the 2001 earthquakes, inside it has tried to preserve its original style.

History of the Church of Ereguayquín The building of the Catholic Church was built during the colonial era in El Salvador, in the sixteenth century. It shows elements of colonial architecture, such as the towers, the niches in the main façade, the wooden pilasters in the interior, the woodwork (interesting feature of the church's sky), the wooden altar, its walls they are made of adobe, mud, their tile roof and their mud brick floor; However, there is another material that makes up the structure of the church, like lamina. The Church was rebuilt from its two main towers, due to an earthquake that originated in the year of 1,932, which were rebuilt in the year of 1936, being the steward Mr. Eugenio Manzano Escobar, and Mayor Mr. Pedro Gómez. When the floor of the building was changed, many remains of mud were found, both whole and deteriorated, which are presumed to be used utensils. by Lenca tribes, also in the Church were found utensils such as: A Christ of gold, a silver cross, some silver candlesticks, 2 stones of ara, the virgin of the trancito in bulk of stone and a fossil rest of a head; which over time was not known about their fate. The earthquake of January 13, 2001 turned into rubble part of the Church of Ereguayquín. What once was an imposing colonial church, with its white facade, and with dozens of parishioners visiting the house of God, is now a set of destroyed walls, architectural elements and memories of the ecclesiastical history of this colonial jewel. Inside, the wooden altar where the image of the Black Christ stood was intact, and with it contrast the fragments of benches, tables and niches that existed inside the Parochial Church. Due to the uninhabitable state of the Church, the parish priest had to officiate religious activities in the Communal House of the municipality; but both he and the community of parishioners want to recover the Church. The desire of the community to recover this piece of religious cultural heritage is very great, and with the solidarity and effort of all this architectural work can be again an imposing colonial church, full of parishioners, joy, devotion and love dedicated to the Almighty Lord. A Pro-Reconstruction Committee of the Parochial Church has been formed and all help is channeled through Father José Efraín Rivera. Little by little the local Catholic community has been working to benefit works to rebuild the temple. A series of activities have been carried out to raise funds, such as: Dinners, shows, election and coronation of queens, sales of lunches and typical meals, sales of pupusas, raffles, excursions, collections and radio ton. With the money that has been raised, reconstruction work has begun in the Parochial Church; the rubble and fragments that lay on the ground after the earthquake were removed. The Church has already been rebuilt in its interior and elements of support for the main façade of the church are beginning to be observed.
