Fantastic little hostel in Tacuma. The owners were really friendly and helpful, and even though we only stayed one night, it felt like home!

Basic accommodation with hot water and clean sheets. The owners are friendly and very knowledgeable about the country. They offer 2 tour options: one is a strenuous hike to a swimming hole and it costs $25 pp. The other is the 7 waterfall special (min 3 people). The cost is $30. William, the guide, is responsible and conscientious. I would not do these tours with little kids as there steep drops and no fixed routes.

Mama and Papa are so sweet and helpful. They truly made my stay at their hostel as comfortable as possible. Make sure that if you want a meal, like breakfast the next day, to let Mama know in advance. The one criticism I do have is that some of the mattresses are a bit worn out. Otherwise, everything else was grand

Tacuba is a pretty small town and this is the only place you will stay in. Manuolo, mentioned below, was in Switzerland while I was there so that left "mama and papa". They don't speak much English but getting by even with my limited Spanish was fine. The property is comfy and pretty relaxing with numerous hammocks, a rocking chair and a few common areas. I was in the dorm, it had 6 beds, 4 of them single beds that's not a bunk. The shower had hot water. You can get food and drink there and its pretty good value. There is also a nearby pupuseria which is very good. It was very quiet here(and in El Salvador in general) which meant organising a tour was a bit awkward as 3 is the minimum number they want for tours. A group did the waterfall tour day before I arrived and they loved it. Probably worth emailing in advance to see what numbers.
