The sumptuous Dar Hussein Palace was built in the 18th century and restored during the 19th century. Now home to Tunisia's National Institute of Archaeology and Art, visitors can wander freely in the beautiful inner courtyard (but aren't allowed into the palace itself) and soak up the opulent surroundings.

It was built in the 12th century in the heart of the royal district of Banu Khorasan. After that, it became the seat of senior officials in various periods of succession following "African" rule. During the Husseini era, this house witnessed a special and important renovation process, because each of its owners in this era wanted to give a luxurious frame to the future wife. In the year 1858, the palace turned into a headquarters for the municipality of Tunis, and General Hussein, who was president of the first municipality, was allowed to reside in it, so the name of the palace was associated with his name since then. The ten members of the Municipal Council which used to be based on the upper floor and the Great Hall.
