Pleasant place to look immediately
Iben khaldoune comes from a large Andalusian family of Yemeni origin and chased from the Iberian Peninsula by the Reconquista. Ibn Khaldoun was born in Tunis at the time dominated by a Berber dynasty, the Hafsids. The Maghreb is experiencing relative peace, however, as medieval Christendom soon sinks into the Hundred Years War and the Great Plague. After an active existence as advisor or minister to the Berber Muslim rulers of the Maghreb, Ibn Khaldoun retired at the age of 45 to Cairo, then under the domination of the Mamluks, where he wrote his work and taught. Not holding in place, he passed through Damascus in 1401, shortly before the city was besieged by Tamerlan. He then gets the formidable conqueror to spare the lives of the inhabitants.
