The Mongi-Ben Hamida National Institute of Neurology, formerly called the National Institute of Neurology of Tunis, is a Tunisian university hospital specializing in neurology. It is named in honor of its founder, the Tunisian neurologist and neuropsychiatrist Mongi Ben Hamida, on May 12, 2012. It includes a pediatric neurology department and an outpatient department. The idea behind this institute dates back to 1967, when Professor Mongi Ben Hamidapropose to create a modern and integrated center, including all specialties related to neurological pathologies, and especially a research laboratory. This concept is completely opposed to what exists in France, and in particular to Salpêtrière, where Mongi Ben Hamida received his training and worked. It was his internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York that inspired him. Construction began in May 1969, and it was five years later, on March 20, 1974, that he opened his doors for the first time to patients.
