The municipality of Sfax was established in 1884. The Sfax Municipal Palace is a wonderful masterpiece of the most beautiful and oldest palaces in North Africa. Its construction began in late 1905 and was completed in 1906. It has a modern Arab style that combines Arab and Western architecture. Designed by French architect Raphael Gay. The first municipal council was convened on April 24, 1906.
