Akgöl

Akgöl hosts approximately 50 different bird species every year. In this lake, approximately 5 thousand flamingos, 2 thousand ducks and many kinds of birds come here from different countries every spring.

Flamingos, their expected guests, started to arrive in Akgöl, known as the bird paradise in the Özalp district of Van. Located 30 kilometers away from Özalp district, Akgöl, which has an area of ​​407 hectares at an altitude of 2,343 meters, hosts flamingos this year as every year. The flamingos who come to Akgöl every year during the migration period and spend their incubation period here, colored the lake this year as well. In addition to flamingos, there are many bird species in the lake. Resembling Konya's Salt Lake with its colorful layers, the lake offers food and accommodation for many wild birds. Flamingos, which feed easily in the reeds thanks to their long legs, continue their migration at the end of August after the incubation period. On the other hand, in addition to the flamingos that are expected guests this year in Akgöl, it was observed that there was a great increase especially in the wild duck population.

Akgöl, which experienced periodic drought in Van's Özalp district, is home to around 45 waterfowl species after recent rains.
