Yuregir, the central district of Adana, became a municipality on June 5, 1986. It took its name from the Turkish Oghuz tribe between the years 1250-1352 due to the settlement of the Uçok tribe. It is the most immigrant district of Adana. Historically, Yuregir district has been considered as an important crossroads due to its location on transition areas.
