Ciyekler Cami

It is beautiful It is a gift of the German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II to Sultan Abdulhamid II in 1898 as a sign of a sincere friendship. The fountain placed in the hippodrome square, one of the important areas of the Byzantine period, impresses with its different architectural structure. The architect of the building is Max Spitta. The architect worked in Germany, the work completed there was brought to Istanbul in pieces and combined here. Architectural Features The fountain, which is in Neo-Byzantine style, is highly decorated. Golden mosaics inside, the texture of marble, precious stones and the fountain are a building wonder. It is domed. On the arches carrying this dome, there is a poem of Mehmed Izzet Efendi written in thuluth line. Bronze plate was placed in the middle of the water reservoir. The fountain has an octagonal plan. The dome sitting on eight columns is carried by eight arches. The building, which contains the features of German-Turkish architecture together, is very important. There are 4 medallions in the structure. While the first one has a signature symbolizing Abdulhamid II, the letter W symbolizing the German King is written on the other three medallions. The taps of the building are bronze engraving. Its dome is covered with copper and the interior of this dome is decorated with gold mosaics. The very flamboyant building is among the historical works of Istanbul.
