It is a beautiful castle, worth visiting, its best feature is that it is on the road. When you enter the castle, you will see how well protected it is. There is also a historical mosque inside, which was built during the time of the Karaman people. When you go to the castle, you will see very beautiful views and you will not regret going. Mamure Castle is located 6 km south-east of Anamur, 216 km west of Mersin on the part of the Antalya-Mersin motorway overlooking the Mediterranean coast. Kale, with an area of 23,500m2 is located in one of the largest castles in Turkey. This castle, which belongs to the medieval period, differs from its counterparts because it carries traces of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Karaman and Ottoman periods. The castle was built by the Romans in the 3rd century to protect the Mediterranean and Cilician trade routes and to protect the merchant ships from pirates. The castle, which was destroyed and destroyed in time, was restored in the 12th century during the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. The castle was repaired in 1450 by Karamanoğlu Mahmut Bey, the regional bey during the period of Karamanoğulları Principality and the castle was named as Mamure (prosperous). In addition, Mahmut Bey built a mosque in the castle between 1300-1308. The castle was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in 1469. In addition, the castle was repaired in the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries. Mamure Castle is still under restoration.
