Ayazma (Faneromeni) Church

Since we stayed in Geö, we could not see the inside, but it was a beautiful structure that was brought to the present by the establishment of the city's notables.

It was a place built in the 1890s. A little girl dreamed of the Virgin Mary in her dream and the Virgin Mary showed her a place and drank water. When these dreams were repeated, the city council of that day gathered and excavated and indeed water came out. Then it was believed that the water is considered holy and distributes healing. The building, which was used as a church for a period, turned into an olive oil factory. Later, it was closed and restored this year and opened to visitors. On top of the running water and on the side of the building there is a very meaningful sentence, "wash not only your face, but your sins".

According to the information we received from the employees, this place, whose official name is Ayvalık Ayazması, has never been used as a church. It is believed that the water coming from the mountain cleanses people from their sins and that the water that has been prayed after praying will cause the prayers to be accepted. A historical building that adds value to Ayvalık. It's worth to be seen.
