Virgin Mary Church located in İdil District Center; construction started in AD 57. The church was built in the first years when Christianity spread in Anatolia. An apostle named Mor Aday, who came to the region at the beginning of Christianity, spread the Syriac here, and after that some churches were built in İdil. It is rumored that 12 thousand people were baptized in the region after the spread of the first Christianity. Until very recently, while the District Center and many villages were connected to the Assyrian-Ancient sect, Muslims became the majority as a result of the settlement of the Muslim people in the District and the emigration of Christians abroad. The Virgin Mary Church is a three-naved building in a basilica plan made of cut stone and is covered with a roof. Only a few sections have survived from the church to the present day.
