Although the building, located at the south end of Sultanahmet Square, just beyond the Knitted Column, is one of the new works in the square, there is very little information about it. It is known that the building was built in 1883 for the Ministry of Forestry, Maadin and Agriculture and started to be used as a school under the name of “Hamidiye Ticaret Mekteb-i Âlîsi” under this supervision, which was united with the Ministry of Trade at that time. The architect of the building in Neo-Ottomano and Art Nouveau style is the Italian architect Raimondo D'Aronco. Famous for his works in Art Nouveau style, D'Aronco worked as a palace architecture for 16 years during the reign of Abdülhamit II and brought many works to Istanbul during this period.
