The world's longest functional historical stone bridge 🌉🤯🇹🇷 The Uzunköprü Bridge or Long Bridge meaning is a 15th-century Ottoman bridge, which gave its name to the town of Uzunköprü back in the day 💜 Bridge facts: Total length1,392 m (4,567 ft) Width 6.80 m (22.3 ft) No. of spans174 Construction start1426 Construction end1443 This mother trucker was built 577 years ago 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Word on the street is this bridge was built between 1426 and 1443 by head architect Muslihiddin on the orders of Ottoman Sultan Murad II. Some of her arches are pointed and some are round but no one really knows why they chose different shapes back in the day 🤷‍♂️ Back in the day when she was first completed this structure was the longest bridge in the Ottoman Empire (and later Turkey.) This title which was held for 530 freakin' years until 1973, when ultimately she was surpassed by the mighty Bosphorus Bridge located in Istanbul. However, Uzunköprü bridge is still the longest stone bridge in all of Turkey and even more impressive the entire world 🌍 This bridge was made to cross the Ergene River, which was a natural barrier for advances into the Balkans for the Ottoman Empire. Her old name was the Ergene Bridge back in the Ottoman days. The bridge was restored to her former glory in 1963. Interestingly enough this bridge was recently added in 2015 to the UNESCO World Heritage sites "Tentative List" in the Cultural category 🌉💪🇹🇷 Pretty wild to drive over something so old and still fully functional... Watching tractors pass you by on their way to their farm on this bridge is a real trip... Imagine if the Ottomans could have seen this technology today 🚜💨🔥🔥🔥
