In 1454, Fatih Sultan Mehmet was allowed to open an embassy on condition that a 2% mutual tax was paid to the Venetians. At that time, the Venetian ambassadors were given the title of “Balyos”. Balyos, who was afraid of the danger of plague in the capital in the 16th century, moves to this embassy building and in the 18th century, this embassy becomes obscured by the French commander Napoleon Bonaparte wiping Venice off the map. Today it is used as the Italian Consulate.
