This place will take your attention once you just entered this street
Have a wonderful frontage with a baroque style of architecture
Interesting building, looks like ancient Greek temples, but its actually just school)
The building, which was completed in 1900, was considered as a school.
Now it is empty ... waiting for its students
Standing out with its four-column entrance that resembles ancient Greek temples, the building in Fener district is neither a presidential building nor a palace. A primary school. It was built as a primary school while it was being made, so it is not a translation from another structure.
Greek merchant Grigoris Maraslis is the mayor of Odessa and one of the richest in Odessa. And he decides to have a school built. Maraslis will not only have the school built, but it will also cover all the educational expenses of the school.
Maraslis expects something alone. The school to be built is not in the shadow of Fener Greek High School, a few streets ahead, in splendor and showing off. Let it be a school that suits its name and carries its name for centuries.
It is not known whether he shares this with anyone, but the history seems to confirm this. Maybe just for this it opens the mouth of the pouch to the fullest.
And the school opens in 1901. But Maraslis doesn't like school. Things start after that already. He looks at a structure he desires, a money he sends and a school.
There is as much difference as mountains. When the claims of corruption are added to this difference, Maraslis will not open the mouth of the sachet again. Naturally, it does not keep its promise that the school will cover all education costs. It does not smell of harmfulness to the school built by its inheritance.
But there is also the truth of the flowing life. Children study at school and the education costs of these children must be covered. Finally, the Patriarchate spends the income of a church attached to it to school.
After a while, the church's income seems to be insufficient to cover the school's expenses. Since it cannot be closed at school, the Patriarchate thinks of another solution.
Perhaps a solution in the soul of these lands that we are very, very accustomed to: “School aid trays”
On Sunday, these trays circulate in some churches and, like everything else, become a tradition over time. The school has survived to this day with this dedication in its history.
As far as I know, the number of students was ten in the academic year.
Private Maraşlı Greek Primary School, which is the story of disappointment and devotion meeting in a cross-section of history rather than the story of a school, is located at the end of the street where the Fener Greek Patriarchate is located and awaits its enthusiasts with its magnificent entrance with four columns.
