This monastery, whose real name was St Thomas Monastery, was an important educational center and place of worship of its period.nnIt is within the borders of Altınsaç village, formerly known as Kanzak (Kantsag).nnIt was built in the 11th century to store the sacred belongings of St. Thomas, who was one of the apostles.nnIt was built with the aim of preserving the sacred relics of St. Thomas from the apostles, and as important as the Akdamar Church for Christians. Thomas Monastery Church was founded on a hill with an indescribably beautiful view against Lake Van. After the repair in 1671, the church was added to the western part of Jamatun and was looted in the late 18th century.nnWhile the monastery has remained intact until today, it is handled in a rectangular plan on the outside and the middle space is covered with an inner dome, a high pulley with twelve edges and a cone.
