It is an old Byzantine church converted into a mosque centuries ago, with some ruins of an ancient Roman Bath in the garden. It is not a place to see mosaics or fresco's but one can still admire this old Easyern Roman architecture. The building is centrally located at the heart of the ancient city near by Suleymaniye Mosque, with an easy access by subway, bus, taxi or a short walk from the Grand Bazaar. It is open to public with no charge except the worshipping hours....

Calendarhane mosque is situated in the historical city center, now Fatih district, European side in Istanbul. This is interesting object in architecture, whichnhas a long and complicated history. This mosque is a famous former Bizantic church named by Theotokos Kyriotissa, which means Madonna Kyriotissa. But firstly it was Roman Tample and thermal baths on approximately 6-7 century. After it was changed for Bizantic church. As a Eastern Orthodox church it was built in 12 century. And after all, when Constantinople was conquered by Ottomans, this famous sacred place was converted one more time - in the mosque. Such a interesting history of this place, so worth visiting.

Mosque in a former Byzantine church so interesting structure you still can see the arches and columns. Sadly almost no original paintings remain.
