Selimiye Masjid

My wife and I had noon prayers at this mosque. The mosque is very beautiful. I tried to be congregation of someone who was praying in it, but it seemed that I was ignored by him. maybe because our mazhab are different.

Standing in the square in front of the Mevlana Museum, this huge domed mosque, commissioned by Sultan Selim II and built between 1566 and 1574, marks the climax of Ottoman mosque architecture. Come to the square in the early evening to get photos of the mosque and Mevlana Museum behind as they are lit up against the dusk sky. Across the main road from the square are a series of outdoor cafés and restaurants, which are a great place to sit down and admire the view of minarets and domes while relaxing with a coffee or tea.

The Selimiye Mosque is an Ottaman Imperial Mosque, which is located in the city of Edirne (formerly Adrianople), Turkey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II, and was built by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan between 1568 and 1575. It was considered by Sinan to be his masterpiece and is one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture.

An old historical Mosque that is near to the famous Mevlana Museum. This mosque had been closed for a long time due to refurbishment and restoration. It has recently been open for general public to visit and hosts five public calls to prayer every day.
