Dating back to the Seljuks in the 13th century Anatolia, this mosque is a unique, engineering marvel and kept its originalty to date. There is a large opening on the roof which allows big amount of light to enter. But the main purpose of this opening is to shovel the snow that pile up on the roof in to a large 2 m wide square pit on the ground inside the mosque. The snow in the pit serves as a coolant during hot summers and it also keeps the huge wooden pillars moist, helps them stand upright and endure the elements better. The wooden pillars were gathered from different parts of Anatolia and they were laid in the water for six months and then dried in large owens so that they won't be affected by worm attacks. It is an old but unique mosque in central Anatolia because it has kept its originality thanks to the engineering put into its construction. You should definitely visit this mosque while you are in Konya. You won't regret it.
