It was opened to worship in 1698, but when it was destroyed by fire in 1889, it was restored in 1891 and opened to service. The Church was Dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the Years it was Built. Missionaries Are Known In Izmir Since The 14th Century. During that period, the Tolerance Environment in Izmir Helped Missionaries Find a Working Environment and a Catholic and Protestant Missionary Influx was experienced in Izmir. Missionaries Propagandas Tried to Expand Their Congregation. Upon this, the First Settled Franciscans had the Church of Santa Maria built. Today, it is used as the Italian Catholic Church, and Priests belonging to the Franciscan Order Work. Congregation of the Church is around 200 people. It is also known as the “Sailors Church” because it is located close to the sea.

A large church located in the center of Bornova. I think it should be turned into a mosque, as it is at a very effective point in terms of location. Now, someone might say, why should we make the church a mosque or something? We don't have a problem with church and Christian friends, everyone knows that. Some central large churches need to be mosques, this is the sword right. Churches can of course continue their activities. As someone who intends everyone to live happily, I wish everyone good lives and good choices.
