Nice place, but the elevator is not that easy to catch... There are always a lot of people

You can get almost there by tram Karatas station, then short walk. Really nice place for the sunset. The lift is for free. During summer get there around 8PM. No need to get before. They have restaurants (with alcohol) upstairs so just go an enjoy it ;)nDownstairs they have several bars and others restaurants less fancy, but you don't have the view. So enjoy the sunset and then pick a place to drink and eat.

Beautiful place, good for sunset. Lift is free and there is a bar/coffee in there

Best things in life are free like the Asansör. It was built by Nesim Levi, a Jewish businessman at the beginning of 20th Century, to facilitate access between two streets with a big elevation difference. He was also the grand grandfather of great French author Mario Levi. The lift plays the songs of Dario Moreno, Izmir’s Frank Sinatra, who used to live nearby. The view from the top is very beautiful, specially at sunset. You can reach it easily by tram (Karatas). These days there is a maximum of 4 person per lift due to social distance, so there may be a bit of a queue to get the lift.

So, as a thing to see this is worth it. The ride is free, takes only about 20 seconds, and they are very COVID aware. The view from the top is worth it, although you may have to wait your turn as it is very popular with instagramers taking pics. There is a cafe and a restaurant at the top as well. Use the public transport to get here as there is very limited parking.nnHistory/information boards are in Turkish and English. At the base of the elevator are a few cafes and pubs - it looks like it could be a kicking place at night.
