Mar Petyun church , located in the old city, once used as the Patriarch of Chaldean Catholic Church refered as Church of the East and currently used by the Chaldenean community of ten families left in Diyarbakır due to Turkish, ethnic discrimination, legislation.

It is near Sheikh Mattar Mosque in Ozdemir District of Sur District. The church, which was not known exactly when it was built, is still used by the Chaldeans of the Catholic sect. The exact history of the Mar Petyun Church is unknown due to the lack of written sources and the lack of inscriptions. On the door in the northwest corner, which provides entrance to the church, an inscription written in 1834 is included. 1834 is considered the date of repair. The building has been repaired many times. As in many buildings in Diyarbakır, black basalt stone was used as the main building material. The plan has five apses with three naves divided by arches. Mar Petyun Church is a complex group with additional buildings that are connected to the need. The complex includes Mar Petyun Church, lodging and three courtyards. The complex structure in which the church is located has an irregular U-shaped arrangement around the courtyard. The basalt stone walls of the church are in harmony with the two-colored stone slabs with diamonds in front of the apse. The main building material, volcanic basalt stone, as well as soil, wood and lime mortar were used. Block stone was used for wall and flooring. As in all buildings in Diyarbakır, lime mortar (cas) was used for decoration and wooden material was used in furniture. For hanging oil lamps on the iron arch bellies, window railings show the usage areas of iron. The church is open to worship today.

Mer Petya's Chaldean Church Chaldean Catholic Church in the Sur district of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey. The community of Mar Petyun church, one of the two active churches in Diyarbakır, is about ten families. The church has no priests, and the priest comes from the Assyrian Church once a month.

Diyarbakır was a church that was held in alternation with the Assyrian Church of the Virgin Mary. The church still exists. Even though the Armenian Catholic in Sur did not receive any damage like the churches of the Holy Giragos, it has been in the area that has been banned since 2015. During the days when the church was open, it was kept open during daytime with an attendant and could be visited for a small fee. Although it is a small church, its courtyard and interior are impressive. There are also examples of burials on the throne of the clergy seen in the Assyrian and Chaldean churches facing east.
