Aya Dimitrios Church

A great fire that broke out in Kaleiçi in 1895/96 burned the historical Agios (Saint) Dimitrios Greek Church. Its location is said to be around the area that is now a park. A few icons were rescued from the burning historical church and are now located in the Antalya Museum. The congregation of the burnt St. Dimitrios church moved the congregation to a small room used as a chapel on the lowest floor of the Greek Girls' School (now dumlupınar school). On the ground floor of this school this chapel is dedicated to Saint Leontios. The Greek community of the burning Saint Demetrios church prayed in the chapel of Saint Leontios until the population exchange in 1923. The exact location of the Saint Dimitrios church is not known, only it is known that it is very close to the area where the park is now. Correct the location. This burning church is dedicated to Saint Dimitrios. There was a place called a burnt hospital where the park is now. Before the fire when the church was standing, Saint Dimitrios Church had the bones of Saint Leontios in the chapel of Saint Leontios, which the congregation has just established after the fire. In the warehouse is the Saint Dimitrios Ikonasi, who was saved from this Church.
