Excavation work was initiated in St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church in Niksar district of Tokat with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.nExpert teams from the Tokat Museum Directorate and the Sivas Monuments High Council to St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church in Karşıbağ District started cleaning work around the idle church in the first place. It is aimed to unearth the church with an excavation to be carried out after the cleaning works and to bring it to tourism.nIn his statement to the AA correspondent, Niksar Mayor Duran Yadigar, who made examinations in the excavation area, stated that the church was built in the 300s after Christ, and with the approval of our Ministry of Culture and Tourism, this excavation work started as the cleaning of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church and especially the preparation for restoration. When this study, which was conducted under the coordination of our Tokat Museum Directorate, under the control of valuable academics from the Sivas Monuments Board, will be presented to the view of the tourism world, which is estimated to belong to the Gregorian Christians in Niksar and considered one of the first churches at that time. ” Noting that it is said that there is a separate city under the Church of Gregory Thaumaturgus, Yadigar said, “This excavation work is very important to reveal the underground city Niksar under Niksar. It is reported that St. Gregory, who was originally known as Theodore (the gift of God), who is not a Christian name, was not converted to Christianity, and that he met Christianity at the age of 14 after his father's death.
