Private Galata Greek Primary School

Former Greek primary school, now used as a cultural centre and space for exhibitions.

The Galata Greek Primary School was built in the late 19th century to contribute to the education and training of Greek children. Located in Galata, one of the oldest districts of Istanbul with its neo-classical architectural style, the school was forced to halt its activities in September 1988 due to demographic problems that started in the 1960s and 70s. In order to increase student capacity and improve the quality of education, the school started to serve as a kindergarten again in 2001 and once again closed in 2007 due to lack of students. The Galata Greek Primary School opened its doors in 2012 for the h Adhocracy olan, one of the two main exhibitions of the Istanbul Design Biennial, curated by Joseph Grima.

It looks like the architecture of the buildings on Bankalar Street .. One of the beautiful examples of post neoclassical architecture ..

I visited several times for the culture and art event. It has a really great architecture.
