Splendid Palace Hotel in Buyukada

There are some places around the world that makes me feel like I traveled to not just another place but also another time. Splendid Palace Hotel is definitely one of these places. Once I laid my first step into the lobby, I felt like I was in 1920’s. It was like a Wes Anderson movie. Historic building went through renovation recently and somehow it’s good to see they managed to preserve the spirit and authenticity of the building. Hotel lacks air conditioning however I didn’t mind it. A small summer breeze did the job well enough.nEvery detail and object are well thought and contributes to overall atmosphere.nnHowever there are two issues I believe believe that needs immediate attention.nn1. Breakfast Service : Although they have a very good and delicious breakfast, they serve it in a very disorganized way. There are 5 waiters for approximately 20 tables then again you can find yourself waiting for a cup of coffee or piece of bread for 30 minutes. Friendliness of the staff compensates the frustration but what’s the point of damaging the overall experience for such a simple problem. I believe having at least have a buffet for drinks and small pastries can improve the overall experience a lot.nn2. Nightlife : Hotel hosts one of the most popular nightlife venues of Büyükada. Despite it was pandemic times club continued to play very loud music until 2pm. Our room was located at 3rd floor towards to backside of the hotel and we could feel every beat in our room. There are none to very little sound isolation. This situation directly contradicts hotel’s peaceful, out of time atmosphere. If you value silence and peace at night, try to get a room away from the club.nnDespite of the issues I’ve mentioned, overall experience is superb and I am looking forward to visit it again.

Very nice hotel with a great view, pool bar and delicious breakfast. We have spent a night here, everything was cool except for the air conditioning. They don’t have one. So i recommend everyone to book a room facing the seaside. At least there is a little bit breeze during summer nights. Anyways we enjoyed our stay here.

An old building turned into a hotel and restaurant. It gives you a glimpse of a time period. The building itself has its own share of a sad story of the region. The restaurant is situated such that you can reserve it for a special event. The food is ok; it could be much better for a place like this. The service lacks professionalism; the staff can be better trained to make guests welcomed.
