Aya Dimitri Churche

Ayios Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church; It was built in 1856 in Alaçam street in Istanbul Buyukada. Since 1924 it has also been used as the Adalar metropolitan. The architect of the church is Fistikas. The church suffered great damage from the earthquake in 1999. It was repaired and put into service in 2010. The church was built on the east and west axis. The church is located in a courtyard. The narthex to the west of the church is entered through three doors. The structure is made of rough rubble stone and the walls are plastered. The building has a two-way hipped roof. The church has a basilica plan. The structure consists of three naves. The nave in the middle is wider. There are five columns between the middle nave and the nave adjacent. The columns are connected by arches. There are rococo style ornaments inside the church.
